Resident Involvement at Westlea

Westlea knows that good communication between tenants and their landlord is essential. We need your feedback and want to know what you think of your homes and the services you receive.
Already, many tenants tell us practical, useful things that help us provide a better service. But we want to hear from more of you.  There are lots of ways tenants can make their voice heard and, more significantly, get involved in the running of the Westlea.
.
Tenants come together with staff in Service User Groups to review, run and check services they receive (e.g. grounds maintenance). These are friendly, informal groups, with all having an equal role.

Taped Focus Group discussions can influence how and when services are provided to tenants: for example, past focus groups considered rents policy and helped shape a local lettings policy.
.
A regular Survey of tenants in leads to changes in how Westlea provides its services. Smaller surveys on specific topics, regularly sent to tenants picked at random, provide information and feedback.
.
Westlea offers Free training to interested tenants, providing an opportunity to gain new skills and experience. Past courses have looked at ‘Assertiveness’ and ‘How To Organise A Meeting’.

An opportunity for tenants to gather together and meet the officers and staff face to face, Westlea’s Tenants’ Conferences are held regularly.
.
Westlea supports the publication of a regular Tenants’ Magazine, with articles and ideas from tenants always welcomed.
.
Westlea works with tenants on Community Development, helping local people apply for funds to regenerate their area. Examples have included the development of a community centre, play areas and youth work.

Four tenants sit on Westlea’s Board of Management to make sure residents' views are considered when important decisions are made.
.
Westlea also has regular meetings for tenants in each area – Area Tenant Groups – and a committee of tenants from all areas meet as the District Forum. Both forums talk about the business of the Westlea and consider local needs.
.

If you would like to get involved in any of the ways described here, or want to find out more about tenant participation at Westlea, please contact Neighbourhood Development on 01249 466163 or by email.
