Residents group planned for Hill Rise area

Westlea Housing is hoping residents of a Chippenham neighbourhood will come forward to set up a residents' association - and is offering support and guidance to get the ball rolling.
Westlea is asking households in the Hill Rise area to consider what are the priorities in their area that need to be addressed - and has organised a first meeting for anyone interested to take place this Thursday, 4th February.
"The many benefits to the community of having a residents' group include having a budget to spend on what local residents feel is beneficial to the community, having a representative voice when dealing with your landlord or other agencies, and the opportunity to apply for funding for social events and community projects," says Chrissy Baxter, Westlea Housing's Neighbourhood Worker for the area.
"Our experience is that being a member of a community residents' group can increase the sense of belonging and pride in your community, give you an opportunity to have training that increases your skill base, and help you make friends and get to know your neighbours better."
The residents' meeting is on Thursday 4 February, from 4pm to 5pm at The Pod on Barrow Green.
There is added incentive of a £10 shopping voucher (per household) for anyone attending this initial meeting.
"There is no obligation to become a member of the residents’ association," explains Chrissy. "We just hope local people will come and give their views and find out more!"
If you would like more information and cannot attend this meeting please contact Chrissy Baxter on 01249 466015 or christina.baxter@westlea.co.uk.
