Older Person Forum Knitting Update
![]() |
The Older Persons Knitting project involves people knitting various articles for different charities including Doorway in Chippenham, Feed the Children and the Shoebox Appeal for children in Eastern Europe.
Last year 4 large boxes of blankets and jumpers were sent to Africa, and a box of scarves and hats went to Doorway in Chippenham. We also had over 200 puppets, cardigans, and jumpers to go into the shoeboxes. This year we have again been given lots of hats and scarves for Doorway, along with blankets and jumpers that are being sent to an orphanage in Sierra Leone, however, we would like to have more puppets if possible because we have not received so many this year.
We are having a big sort out again soon, and would ask that anyone who has any knitted items ready to go lets us have them by Friday 11 September. They can be dropped off at our head office (Methuen Park – near Sainsburys) or at any sheltered housing scheme. If you are unable to bring them to us, please let us know and we will try to arrange for someone to collect them. We would also welcome any donations of unwanted wool or needles so that we can redistribute them to our knitters.
All the patterns for the various charities are available in a knitting pattern book that is being updated at the moment. If you have any questions about this project or would like a copy of the new knitting book when it is available, please contact Jen Eastman on 01249 466168, or jen.eastman@westlea.co.uk.
