Football Frenzy scheme for Summer 2005:
to 'beat boredom of holidays'

12-14 year olds in Chippenham, Corsham and Calne have started coaching sessions for the Summer Football Frenzy - an inter estate 7-a-side football scheme for girls and boys in the area organised by Westlea Housing and North Wiltshire District Council.

Coaching by qualified football coaches takes place on Monday and Wednesday evenings in Chippenham (for both Chippenham and Calne teams) and on Tuesday and Thursdays at Rudloe, Corsham. There will then be a Finals Day for teams from all three towns on 28 August 2005 at Stanley Park in Chippenham.

The Summer Football Frenzy is being sponsored by Westlea Housing Association and North Wiltshire District Council which means that the young people can take part free of charge. Coaching support for the project is by Sportzcoach. Transport will be also provided to and from coaching sessions from a variety of local pick-up points in each town.
"After the succcess of the scheme we ran in Corsham last year, Westlea is pleased to again be working in partnership with North Wiltshire District Council on this great project," says Dave Ball, Neighbourhood Housing Manager at Westlea. "It's a great way for local kids to beat the boredom of the summer holidays and we hope that the coaching sessions and finals day will help bring local estate communities closer together."

"The fact that we are running the Football Frenzy in three towns this year obviously means that even more young people can take part," says Steve Silk, Sports Development Officer at North Wiltshire District Council. "Of course we also hope to discover and develop new talent although everyone is welcome to come and take part no matter what they think their ability is."

Postcards publicising the project are being distributed via secondary schools in all three towns but anyone who wants to take part can still get in touch via email - contact either dave.ball@westlea.co.uk or ssilk@northwilts.gov.uk or telephone 01249 466129.
