Survey results

Stokes Croft is situated in Calne and consists of a mixture of houses, bungalows, and flats. The survey area includes the following roads: Stokes Croft, Lid Brook, The Were, Chissell Brook, and Lady Down.

Analysis of the survey data shows the following:

Positives

• People feel safer during the day time in their homes and neighbourhood, with the overall satisfaction level changing from amber to green.
• Satisfaction with the parks and recreation areas has increased from 57.1 % to 67.6% from amber to green.
• Overall satisfaction with the neighbourhood has increased from 44.0% to 53.3% going from red to amber.
• Overall satisfaction with children and young people has increased from 35.9% to 51.7% going from red to amber.

Negatives

• Stress has increased both for the person completing the survey and for other people in the household, going from amber to red.
• Satisfaction with facilities for children has decreased from 53.7% to 46.7%, changing from amber to red.
• Crime and community safety are still a problem.

New fencing has been put up around the park, which may contribute to the increased satisfaction levels with the park and recreational areas.

Stress levels and crime and community safety may be related, however stress may be also due the general mood of the public at the moment with the ‘credit crunch’ and fear of job losses playing a part.

We surveyed a total 74 properties and we received 30 completed surveys giving us a response rate of 41%.

The overall response level for the community development survey gives us a confidence interval of +/- 13.11%.
This means that we can be 95% certain that if 50% of people say that they are satisfied with their neighbourhood, the actual percentage would be between 36.11% and 63.89%, if every one had answered.
