Survey results

Rudloe is situated near to Corsham and consists of a mixture of houses, bungalows, and flats. The survey area includes the following roads: Prestley Wood Road, South Croft Road, North Croft Road, Long Close Avenue, Weir Hayes, Kings Lea Avenue, Toghill Crescent, Bankwaters Road, Broadwood Avenue, Sandy Lea Avenue, Westwood Road, Club Row.

There is a community centre on the estate from which activities are run, such as the Healthy Living project that encourages families to lead a healthy lifestyle through play and fun activities. Sport coach hosted a wide range of sporting activities on the green throughout the school holidays. Through our partnership with the Youth Service, there is Street Based Youth Work in the area along with youth clubs at the centre. The Youth Service also run the popular ‘Dreamscheme’ projects, where young people can earn points to go on activities such as camping breaks by working in the community doing things such as litter clean-ups.

Analysis of the survey data shows the following:

Positives

• Satisfaction levels with parks and recreation areas have gone up hugely from 47.7% to 71.9% moving from red to green.
• Overall satisfaction with the play areas is up from 44.8% to 65.3% moving from a red to amber light.
• The children and young people category has increased from 53.6% to 59.2% remaining at amber.

Negatives

• Noise is more of a problem down from 58.9% to 49.1% and changing from amber to red.
• There is a big drop in satisfaction with the amount of graffiti on the estate – from 73.2% to 43.4% moving from green to amber.
• People feel less safe in the neighbourhood at night moving from 55.8% to 49.4% and from amber to red.

Activities for the children have been run by the Youth Service, Barnardo’s, and the Neighbourhood Worker. This is reflected in the positive results.

The problems with noise, graffiti, and safety appear to indicate that more working with the Neighbourhood Policing Team may be useful.

We surveyed a total of 234 and we received 95 completed surveys giving us a response rate of 41%.

The overall response level for the community development survey gives us a confidence interval of +/- 7.77%.
This means we can be 95% certain that if 50% of people say that they are satisfied with their neighbourhood, the actual percentage would be between 42.23% and 57.77%, if every one answered.
