Survey results Hill Rise is situated in Chippenham and consists of a mixture of houses, flats, and bungalows. The survey area included: Hill Rise, Heathfield, Moorlands, Northwood, Barrow Green, Birds Marsh View, Greenway Court, Greenway Lane, and Hill Corner Road Hill Rise has a dedicated Neighbourhood Worker in the area. Westlea has also gained planning permission for ‘The Pod’ on Barrow Green, which acts as a base for many activities such as Footy4all, family activities run by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Chippenham library story telling sessions, Kandu arts project, and the Wiltshire Scrap Store. Westlea also has a partnership with the Youth Development Service, who provide Street Based Youth Work in the area. They also run the popular ‘Dreamscheme’ project whereby young people can earn points to go on activities by working in the community doing things such as tidying gardens.
Analysis of the survey data shows the following:
The positive results relating to the facilities for children and young people and the play areas, may be a result of the newly-installed ‘POD’, which is being used by many groups as a community centre, providing sport and other activities. The negative results appear to indicate that more work with the Neighbourhood Policing Team may be useful. The increase in stress levels could be caused by the fear of crime, concerns about community safety, and noise nuisance. However stress may also be due to the general mood of the public at the moment with the ‘credit crunch’ and fear of job losses playing a part.
