Survey results

Coleman’s Farm is an area of Calne and consists of the following roads: Pym House, Bodinnar House, Coleman's Close, Macauley Square, Page Close, Ogilvie Square, Pinnegar House, Woodroffe Square, Bailey House, Blake House, Coulter House, The Knapp, Angell Close, Foreman Street, George Close, Fitzmaurice Square, Grierson Close

Coleman’s Farm has a community centre from which the Calne Family Action Group is run. There are family activities run at the centre through our partnership with Barnardo’s, which also provides family support to families on the estate. Westlea also has a partnership with the Youth Service, which provides Street Based Youth Work in the area along with youth clubs at the centre. They also run the popular ‘Dreamscheme’ project, where young people can earn points to go on activities, such as camping breaks, by working in the community doing things such as litter clean-ups. The community centre is also used for IT training courses and Internet access by members of the community via the eCalne project.

Analysis of the survey data shows the following:

tickPositives

  • greenSatisfaction levels with parks and recreation areas have gone up hugely from 47.7% to 71.9% moving from red to green.
  • amberOverall satisfaction with the neighbourhood is now 60.2% up from 48.1% and moving from red to amber.
  • redVandalism is less of a problem, moving from 40.5% to 53.4% and is now an amber light from red.

tickNegatives

  • redSatisfaction levels with large groups of youths and children has changed from amber to red, down from 53.0% to 46.0%
  • redDrug dealing has changed from amber to red – from 56.4% to 49.3%

A lot of resources have been put into brightening up the estate with extra flowers and planters. Activities for children have been run by the Youth Service, Barnardo’s, and the Neighbourhood Worker. This is reflected in the positive results.

The negative results appear to indicate that more working with the Neighbourhood Policing Team may be useful.
