North Wiltshire District Council's housing needs register is a list of households (individuals, or groups of people living together as a family) who are looking for other housing. The register allows us to decide which households are in greatest need of a move to more suitable housing. We do this by awarding points according to people's current housing circumstances. We put forward those households in greatest housing need to social landlords such as housing associations for rehousing. The council does NOT have its own stock having transferred it to Westlea Housing Association in 1995. Housing associations are non-profit-making organisations who specialise in providing affordable housing. if you are on the housing needs register, we may consider you for either rented accommodation or low-cost home ownership schemes. Unfortunately, because of a shortage of properties in the district, most people will have to wait a long time and many who do not have priority may never be put forward and rehoused from the register. The housing needs register is not a waiting list and we will only decide to put your name forward according to your current housing needs points. Although most lettings by housing associations in the district depend on who we put forward, the housing needs register is not the only list the associations refer to when properties are ready to be let. Some housing associations may also choose tenants from their transfer lists or their own housing priority lists. A small number of leftings may also be awarded to people applying from outside the district. Westlea Housing Association is the largest social landlord in the district and manages the housing needs register for the council. People are automatically added to their housing list if those people have filled in a housing needs register application form. A second purpose of the housing needs register is to help us to collect information about households who need accommodation in the district. This then helps us to use our limited resources effectively. Even if you think your household has little chance of being rehoused through the housing needs register, you should still fill in an application form. We will treat your application details
confidentially. We only use personal information to assess and maintain
your application for housing. You have the right to check your personal
details once we have dealt with your application. |
