Newburn
House is accommodation for young women, owned and managed by Westlea
Housing, working in partnership with Splitz Support Service.
Who
can use the service?
The project provides short-term accommodation to four women aged between
16 and 24 years old who are pregnant or have one young child, and:
•
Are homeless or threatened with homelessness;
• Live in the West Wiltshire district or have immediate family
living in the area;
• Do not require a high level of support;
• Are able to demonstrate a willingness to cooperate with all
support agencies involved with the project, and take part in activities
either as part of the group or individually; and
• Have the ability to live independently in the long term.
Support
offered
The project offers:
•
Advice, guidance, and encouragement to enable residents to experience
the difficulties, challenges, and rewards that having their own home
can bring;
• An environment that enables residents to make informed choices
about their long-term housing and support needs;
• A safe and secure place to stay with support from others in
a similar situation and an opportunity to widen social networks;
• An opportunity to participate in a wide range of practical
and interesting activities; and
• Learning opportunities covering independent living skills,
child development, benefit, and managing money advice with access
to educational and vocational opportunities.

within the project
• Good quality accommodation and support for between 6 and 18
months depending on assessed need
• Own furnished bedroom, shared kitchen and bathrooms
• Quiet study room
• Attractive enclosed garden
• Local amenities within easy walking distance
• Laundry facilities
• Staff who will respect privacy and offer practical help and
are available between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday
• A resettlement service when 'move on' accommodation is identified.

How
you apply
Referrals will be considered only from young women who are registered
for housing with West Wiltshire District Council. Nominations for
accommodation will be accepted from the Council’s Housing Needs
Team.
