National Fraud Initiative - Unlawful Sub-letting Data Matching Exercise
In August 2009, the Rt Hon John Healey MP announced a national focus on unlawful sub-letting in the social housing sector. This involves a data matching exercise that aims to identify tenants who are housed in social dwellings, but who fail entitlement rules because they have tenancies elsewhere or who are subletting their properties.
The Audit Commission Act 1998 defines data matching as the comparison of sets of data to determine how far they match. The purpose of data matching is to identify inconsistencies that may indicate fraud.
Westlea Housing Association has agreed to participate in this exercise being conducted by the Audit Commission.
